Composition:
Composed in Oxford, 1918–9. The manuscript was lost, and upon its recovery
in 1921, the score was revised extensively, particularly the last movement.
Further minor revisions followed ca. 1955. Walton revised the score again in
1974–5.
First Documented Performance:
Wednesday, 30 October 1929. Aeolian Hall, London. Pierre Tas violin,
James Lockyer viola, John Gabalfa cello, Gordon Bryan piano.
A Gordon Bryan Chamber Concert.
