William Walton Edition

Oxford University Press is currently publishing the William Walton Edition, a critically edited collection of his works.

The following is extracted from a pamphlet (c.1998) detailing the edition:

"Conductors, librarians, and Walton enthusiasts will be excited to learn that between now and 2002 (the centenary of the composer's birth) Oxford University Press is issuing a collected edition of Walton's works, in 23 volumes. Each work will be newly edited and checked against the composer's manuscript, previous published editions, and all other relevant material. The edition will present practical and definitive texts, based on the form in which the composer ultimately wished his music to be performed, and including in some cases both original and revised versions. Carefully researched introductory essays will place the works in their historical context and in the composer's oeuvre, and there will be full critical notes. All volumes will be hardback, handsomely printed, and available both individually and on subscription."

The edition was not completed by the expected deadline, and volumes continue to become available. The entire projected series is listed below, with further details for those volumes which are currently available for purchase.
